Aerobic or Cardio training is included in a program to train the heart and lungs to work more efficiently during exercise, sports activities, and daily living activities, and to decrease the risks of heart disease or failure.
Aerobic training has many functions. It improves the strength and endurance of the heart, as with other muscle strengthening, to beat at a more efficient rate so as to allow a more active lifestyle without risk of heart failure. Training also decreases or eliminates many of the heart health risks such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, and obesity that can lead to heart disease or failure. Aerobic conditioning is done by training each client in their THR or Target Heart Rate zone which is based on age and level of aerobic capacity. Training in this zone for various time intervals will train the heart and lungs to work more efficiently over time. In addition, aerobic conditioning, combined with strength, flexibility and balance, allow for a diverse, effective program for weight loss, decreases in % body fat, proper alignment and posture, as well as improved health.
